TaikoArts Midwest presents TaikoTHRIVE, Ensō Daiko’s annual concert, this year on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2024, at The Ordway Center for Performing Arts. The promise is high energy, heart pounding rhythms and soaring melodies from the heart of Japan. International guest artists include Yuichi Kimura and his six drummers, Daichi no Kai of Kobe, Japan, and Aki of TenTen (Toronto, Canada). Premiering will be TaikoArts Midwest’s first youth group, The Mighty Drumming Club. As we bring more taiko to youth and to celebrate Mother’s Day, tickets for folks 15 years & under are FREE.
After surviving the pandemic, taiko drumming is now thriving in Minnesota. TaikoArts Midwest curates world-class programming, places Asian artists center stage, collaborates with the world’s best artists, bringing diversity and excellence to Minnesotan stages.
Daichi no Kai is a professional taiko ensemble based in Kobe, Japan, led by prominent artist, Yuichi Kimura. Kimura is the prodigy of the top male superstar taiko artist and Odaiko soloist, Eitetsu Hayashi, a founding member of the first premiere taiko groups ever in Japan. Yuichi
Kimura is known for high energy, fast rhythms, and pulse pounding power drumming.
Aki of Tenten, featured in the film, “Finding Her Beat”, is a prolific vocalist, shamisen master, taiko drummer, choreographer, and dancer known for her playful style and huge presence. Born in Kyoto and now living in Toronto, Aki tours, performs, and records unique and soulful works
year-round. In 2023, she celebrated her 20th Anniversary with a tour of 20 North American cities.
