Inspired by the success of her book, Ashti Meets Birdman Al, Carmen Rubin ventured into writing her first stage play to unite artists and communities of all ages and backgrounds through the power of music, highlighting jazz's deep roots in society. Through the shared experience of music and storytelling, Ashti’s Journey to Jazz emphasizes the importance of unity, resilience, and the transformative power of the arts.

Celebrated Twin Cities singer and actor Thomasina Petrus composed the score in collaboration with Thom West. The production features CC Kramer as Ashti, Solomon Parham, along with a talented ensemble of local actors of all ages, bringing this vibrant story to life with soulful jazz music and dynamic performances.
